We had an opportunity to talk to the Funklectic Mistress, Heidi B to learn more about Funklectic. She also weighs in with some great fashion tips.

Short company background
Funklectic combines funk with eclectic imaginative flair and strives to turn the ordinary into extraordinary. With a degree in graphic design and an obsession with fashion, designer Heidi B works out of her Denver studio hand making jewelry, accessories and clothing for men and women. Collections vary greatly and include materials such as guitar picks, vinyl records, vintage ties and vintage fabrics.

What inspires your designs?
Most often I am inspired by the amazing collection of fabrics, textiles, and randomness that is scattered and piled throughout my studio. When I need inspiration, I can stare at my wall of fabric (quite literally it’s a wall full of shelves that houses my collection), dig through bins of collected ties, ribbons, rick rack, and more and by the end of it I have a million ideas running through my head. Too bad the days are not long enough to make them all come to life!

What accessory trends do you see being popular for the summer?
I foresee a change from gold to silver with chunky chains and just a dash of bright color being present in a lot of jewelry. Handbags will most likely decrease in size from the mini duffle bag to a more moderately sized purse and will be showered with color and bling.

Any tips on saving money on your wardrobe and accessories?
Buy versatile accessories that can go great with jeans and a t-shirt or be dressed up for a night out. Think about versatility on a different level too and get creative with how many ways you can wear one item: a unique scarf can be tied around your neck, tame your hair when you have a case of the frizzies, cinch your waist over a plain dress or tied around your purse strap for some added color.

A long necklace can be worn around your neck or wrapped around your wrist multiple times to create a layered bracelet. Get creative with items you may pass off as unusable such as clip on earrings which make great shoe accessories (think clipping them on the front of ballet flats) or can dress up a hair do. With ideas like this, you can wear the same item different ways and not get bored with it.

Thanks to Heidi B and Funklectic!
